VAZQUEZ, Marisa. The "Aurora" of identity. Rev. Esc. Hist. [online]. 2006, n.5, pp.353-361. ISSN 1669-9041.

Meant to be part of the 1908 Season of the Colon Theatre, the opera Aurora was composed in 1905 by Hector Panizza after a contract with the Governmet of Buenos Aires in order to build up a national identity that was suffering the impact of thousands of foreigners arriving from different origins. I will analyze how Aurora comprises in the social-political context of the generation of 1880 and the one of the Centenary. I will also consider the concepts of Raymond Williams about tradition and institutions, since they allow connecting the text with its production environment. In the ideological processes of late XIX and beginning of the XX Aurora can be read as an attempt to provide Argentina with a common base, translated in the vindication of the gaucho, the inclusion of the immigrant masses and the elaboration of a common history that involved the collective.
