Towards 1920, a Catholic newspaper from Buenos Aires got involved in a process of modernization.  At first sight, the history of this process does not differ from other processes that were encouraged by some newspapers like LaPrensa, La Razón or Crítica. Although El Pueblo's case shows a peculiarity which is interesting to remark: it was developed in a particular language that was characterized by a fervent expression with a tone of a crusade. The passion for de crusade was born by the way in which El Pueblo began through the 20's decade the path to become a popular newspaper. It was a true popular newspaper but catholic.  We will see that the quiet tone a newspaper still has by the 1921, was transformed into a sharp and virulent tone of a crusade, since the newspaper enterprise was getting into a rising presses of business consolidation and modernization. That acute language will be seen with special emphasis in the so called Gran Concurso de Difusión del periódico, that was an annual contest of readers tending to have a long life in the history of the newspaper (standing from 1928 to 1954) El Pueblo invited its readers to participate challenging them to become the "crusaders of the good press". Although its fighting and virulent tone, the crusade loaded by the newspaper was not polluted by politics or at least that was the image it wanted to show. Through this article, we try to understand the social and political changes the Argentinean Catholicism lived by the early decades of the twentieth century.
