Abstract

JUSTINIANO, María Fernanda. Power and wealth in Salta by the end of XIX century: how many of cows and how much of sugar?. Rev. Esc. Hist. [online]. 2008, vol.7, n.1, pp.61-80. ISSN 1669-9041.

From the analysis of the economic movements of sugar companies located in the Provinces of Jujuy and Salta, whose proprietors were families from Salta, that had an important insertion in national and provincial political life, and the study of a estancia located in the department of Rosario de la Frontera, dedicated to livestock farming, I demonstrate that the benefits of the sugar company surpassed widely the estancias one. These profits were the supports of successful national political enterprises of families like Ovejero and Uriburu.

Keywords : History of Salta; Economic history of Salta; Ledesma; Families network; Elite of Salta.
