Abstract

FELITTI, Karina. The "Population Bomb" and Planned Parenthood into discussion: Institutions, Debates and Proposals from Centre and Periphery). Rev. Esc. Hist. [online]. 2008, vol.7, n.2. ISSN 1669-9041.

This paper analyzes some milestones of the intellectual and political debates that took place in the sixties, about the relation among population, development and family planning, setting the growth of institutions and discussion and actions groups in the complex political map of the Cold World and the relations between centre and periphery. Bearing in mind the particular demographic situation in Argentina, we explore the reception of these debates in Buenos Aires and the proposals they generated in a representative sector of the political and intellectual community, revising the papers presented al the Population Politics for Argentine Symposium (Simposio sobre Política de Población para la Argentina), organized by the Instituto Torcuato Di Tella in 1969.

Keywords : Population; Planned Parenthood; International politics; Latin America; Argentine; Sixties.
