RAMIREZ, Héctor E.. (Development, under-development, and development theories in a critical geography perspective). Rev. Esc. Hist. [online]. 2008, vol.7, n.2. ISSN 1669-9041.
This paper holds a critical approach of development theories in Geographic and the teaching of geographic. For many years notions like development, under-development, developed countries, under-developed countries were taught a-critically. Those concepts were taken as general truths and the levels of development of the different countries were attributed to their environmental conditions. The description of the world in terms of rich and poor countries those became legitimate ideologically, and it has trivialized the teaching of geography up to these days. This paper is based on the devised the social critical theoricians and marxist geographers like David Harvey, Peter Taylor and Milton Santos who unveiled the consequences of those approaches in the teaching Geographic and provided further explanations about the real causes of conceptual division of the world in developed and under-developed countries.
