Abstract

CORREA, Rubén Emilio  and  SOLER CARMONA, Alejandra. Press, business and dictatorship: El intransigente and reorganization of business entities. Salta, 1975-1977. Rev. Esc. Hist. [online]. 2009, vol.8, n.2. ISSN 1669-9041.

One of the first measures taken by the 1973 military government was to restrain political organizations and unions of any non-administrational activity. Albeit such political restraints, in Salta business organizations started negotiations towards their unification. In fact, determining new directions and leadership for business chambers was essential for a new chapter with a whole new economic agenda. The newspaper El Intransigente, biased for the tobacco and beans farmers on the Valle de Lerma, was about to become the spokesman of Salta's businessmen and a supporter of both the local and national government. The article presents the results of the investigations we've conducted about Salta's press from 1975 to 1983. Our purpose is to characterize the business reorganization process that took place starting in 1976 and to establish the role that the press had in it, evaluating their argumentational rethorics and their position on the interests web of the different fractions and layers of Salta's bourgeois.
