Abstract

ALVERO, Luis Alejandro. In search of the balance: Production and public finance of Catamarca at the end of the 19th century. Rev. Esc. Hist. [online]. 2011, vol.10, n.1. ISSN 1669-9041.

This article analyzes the fiscal politics of Catamarca luego from the crisis of 1890. This crisis influenced the economic performance and the accounts of the public provincial exchequer. Along the same are analyzed the fiscal policies implemented by the provincial administrations during the year 1890 and 1900, especially during the governments of Gustavo Ferrary and Julio Herrera. Centred on the analysis of the Budgets and the evolution of the fiscal collection, is highlighted the effort for balancing the public accounts by means of a reorientation in the search of resources and budgetary adjustments and are outlined the limits of this effort, because of the irregularities in the collection, the administrative weaknesses of the provincial state and the productive crisis.
