RIVERO RODRIGUEZ, Manuel. The Reconstruction of the Spanish Monarchy: The New Relationship with the Kingdoms, 1648-1680). Rev. Esc. Hist. [online]. 2013, vol.12, n.1, pp.00-00. ISSN 1669-9041.
According to the traditional historiography, the political model of the Spanish Monarchy has ranged between a centralist and federalist approach. In any case, the underlying logic was the tension center-periphery. Recently a "polycentric model" has been proposed, where the clue was the constant negotiation among interconnected centres. The article analyses this issue starting from a decisive point of transition: the reconstruction of the relationship model between king and kingdoms which started in 1648 as a response to the severe crisis that desolated the Spanish Monarchy from 1640 onwards. Therefore, it is postulated that a comprehensive plan for enhancing this relationship existed. The keys of such a project were the notion of balance and the invigoration of royal authority at the expense of the mediator role of viceroys and audiences.
