Nigeria is characterized as a country with an unequal exploitation of its territory, controlled by foreign companies allied with the corrupt government. The high rates of illiteracy, the economic development based on the oil exploitation, the unequal and unfair distribution of resources and the brutal repression of any type of social movement are determinant in this case. The establishment of the Sharia in the North of the country has been controversial, since its implementation subordinates it to a secular State and Constitution. In this context, Boko Haram, an islamic movement, uprises between 2002 and 2009. We will study the emergence of this group thinking at the same time about the role of Islam as a catalyst for insurrection movements. In order to do this, we will discursively analyze their releases and reflect on the meaning of their behavior. Besides, we intend to enclose Boko Haram in the context of a worldwide rebirth of the Yihad and take a look at the different western narratives that form around this phenomenon.
