Connecting reflection with a specific case, I try to show the operability of local history to capture the diversity of social experience and the gravitation of the contexts that give it a meaning. An exercise to reduce the scale of analysis is tested, until it is placed in a local space to observe at a micro level the social transformations that took place in the central valleys of Jujuy after the discovery in 1939 of an iron deposit in the mountains of Zapla, and the subsequent implementation of a productive complex that referred to a national development project. I want to show this way some of the dimensions of the processes of social change involved, invisible in macro-level approaches.
