Resumen
LOYOLA MAYAGOITIA, Arturo. Crisscrossed axis: the peruvian space, the paths of the pacific and the defense of the austral frontier in the change of century (XVI-XVII). Rev. Esc. Hist. [online]. 2019, vol.18, n.2, pp.00-00. ISSN 1669-9041.
The article presents an overview of the economic interaction between the two American viceroyalties, and of these with the Spanish metropolis, at the end of the XVI century and early years of the XVII. The objective is to underline the importance that military factors had in the dynamics that involved and tied the southern frontier of the Spanish empire (from Chile to Argentina) with the Peruvian space and, also, with the entire transpacific axis, which included New Spain and the Philippines. In this sense, I consider that the space that concentrated the need of defense was the “Mar del Sur” (Pacific Ocean), as, for these years, it was in those coasts that the movement of silver ought to take place before its arrival to Europe. This analysis remarks the complications that the Spanish monarchy had to coordinate the defense of the ultramarine commercial ties and, also, analyses the answers that arose to attend and sort out the problems that represented the whole of the pacific space.
