This article aims to measure the importance for Chile of its maritime trade ties with Latin America between 1844 and 1870. Therefore, the information available in the Trade Statistics is systematized and the importance of regional trade contacts is evaluated in relation to the total foreign trade of the country, the content of the exchanges and the declared nationality of the vessels that carried it out. It is concluded that although marginal, these commercial ties were significant for Chile because they were complementary to the exchanges that the country had with its main commercial partners, England, France and the United States.
