Abstract

PRAIA, João  and  CACHAPUZ, António. Ciência-Tecnologia-Sociedade: um compromisso ético. Rev. iberoam. cienc. tecnol. soc. [online]. 2005, vol.2, n.6, pp.173-194. ISSN 1850-0013.

The paper aims to promote a reflection about "a new perspective about Science" emphasizing human, social, cultural and economic requirements of the scientific and technological developments of the contemporary societies. It aims to break up with the artificial division between science and technology. Efforts should be made to bridge the gap between these two cultures. The STS trilogy (Science-Technology-Society) is presented as an ethical commitment. If we don´t take seriously that commitment, science may become victim of its own development. There historically dominant positions about Science/Technology are presented including the Declaration of the World Conference on Science for the 21st century: a new commitment (UNESCO).

Keywords : Science; Technology; Society; Ethic.
