This paper analyzes the role of science in the development and implementation of policies. The article presents and discusses different conceptual models (mainly the modern model) which describe the relation and interfaces between science and regulation policies of environmental subjects. As well, considering that these models present underlying assumptions, strong points and limitations, and that none of them offer a universal solution, the author proposes new alternatives on the basis of the reformulation of these models.
