Abstract

GONZALEZ GARCIA, Marta I.. Modernización ecológica y activismo medioambiental: el caso de la energía eólica en España. Rev. iberoam. cienc. tecnol. soc. [online]. 2008, vol.4, n.11, pp.95-113. ISSN 1850-0013.

Ecological Modernization Theory argues for looking back at science, technology and industrial development to provide solutions for the environmental problems that they themselves have to some extent produced. The strategy of ecological modernization takes place in the context of Ulrich Beck's "reflexive modernization", the consequence of the accumulation of the unintended side-effects of modernity. In this scenario, the role of civil society and environmental groups becomes central. Taking as a case study the development of wind energy in Albacete (Castilla-La Mancha, Spain), the paper discusses ecological modernization in action, focusing on the attitudes and strategies of environmental groups.

Keywords : Ecological modernization; Reflexive modernization; Environmental groups; Wind energy.
