This paper focuses on the interaction between citizens and scientific information. This interaction is necessary to understand socially relevant scientific and technological problems. The authors describe the search for scientific information about these problems and discuss the obstacles found by a citizen who attempts this search. As a conclusion, it is pointed out that several variables may influence the difficulties mentioned before: characteristics of the information system, the nature of scientific information, and citizens' own capabilities and dispositions
