This article examines international cooperation in science and technology through the voices of the researchers who carry out these activities. Its ideas are backed by a case study of three research centers of the Universidad Nacional de La Plata, Argentina, which have significant international outreach activities. The authors firstly review the literature on international cooperation in science and technology, in order to establish a correct theoretical approach. Secondly, they offer a brief description of the three research groups included in the study. Finally, the authors analyze the origin of the relations of cooperation that bind the research groups studied, the reasons that lead researchers to engage with peers living in other parts of the world, and the implications of international cooperation in science and technology in knowledge production
