DA CUNHA NUNES, Camila; RAMOS LAMAR, Adolfo y ZOBOLI, Fabio. Science, technology and society (STS) and physical education: some notes. Rev. iberoam. cienc. tecnol. soc. [online]. 2013, vol.8, n.23, pp.35-44. ISSN 1850-0013.
The scientific and technological aspects of physical education tend to be studied within the scene of social relations; however, in Brazil it has been analyzed mostly from an epistemological perspective. It is necessary to address such issues from a more extensive and thorough point of view. Thus, it is important to discuss the possible relevance of the relation between physical education and STS studies (Science, Technology and Society). This new approach not only considers epistemological aspects, but social derivations as well. The STS approach requires paying attention to several conditions: social gender; ideological, economical, political and cultual conditions; ethnic, racial, religious, ethical and moral conditions; the need for supervision or public control, democratic progress and the implementation of this last aspect. But before even applying the STS approach, it is important to understand that these practices in the field of physical education and sports are neither inherently good or evil, nor socially neutral
