PARSELIS, Martín. Social function and social innovation: the Twitter case. Rev. iberoam. cienc. tecnol. soc. [online]. 2014, vol.9, n.25, pp.53-71. ISSN 1850-0013.
Twitter is a software application that belongs to the microblogging and social networks categories within the boundaries of what has been called web 2.0. The exploration of the relationship between Twitter and user communities shows collective behaviors and significant social functions that have been studied from the fields of communication, semiotics, social construction of information and knowledge and other collective phenomena. This paper analyses these relationships from a set of perspectives that belong to the philosophy of technology, such as the systemic aproach and the technical object approach, considering Twitter as a particular case. The characterization of key elements in the techno-social mechanism shows some pending problems within an entity that, while understood traditionally as a formal object, also appears to have an artifactual behavior.
