Resumen

SCHEPPER GONCALVES, Rafael  y  FERNANDES SILVA, Luciano. Subject Engagement From The STS Approach In Basic Education: Characterization Of Papers Submitted By Brazilian, Spanish And Portuguese Authors In The Ibero-American STS Seminars. Rev. iberoam. cienc. tecnol. soc. [online]. 2017, vol.12, n.34, pp.223-249. ISSN 1850-0013.

There are multiple areas of analysis in a STS approach. There are many efforts offering students a science education that aims at a more comprehensive knowledge, in the sense of preparing them to face decision-making processes. In that context, this paper sought to identify and assess the theoretical characteristics and methodologies involved in the proposals for STS education from a subject engagement standpoint presented by Brazilian, Spanish and Portuguese authors. To that end, the literature used in this research is comprised of the papers that appeared in the publications from the first three Iberoamerican STS Seminars. The information gathered was subjected to content-analysis procedures. The results show there are more similarities than differences between the practices in Brazil and in the Iberian Peninsula, which suggest a potential dialogue between the education practices in both groups. It is thought that these practices would make a contribution in the student’s scientific and civil education.

Palabras clave : Subject engagement; STS approach; Science education.
