GRILLI SILVA, Javier y COELHO, Juan. The Teaching Of Zoology With A STS Approach: Cephalopods And Visual Communication. An Educational Experience In Teacher Training. Rev. iberoam. cienc. tecnol. soc. [online]. 2017, vol.12, n.35, pp.39-57. ISSN 1850-0013.
In teachers’ initial training it is usual for the specialization’s subjects to follow the logics of their discipline. This paper presents an experience developed in the biology teacher training course, where the zoology topics were taught with an STS approach. The animal group under study were cephalopods, stressing on their visual communication, which was linked to technological applications and social and cultural issues regarding visual communication in humans. The students’ work proposal included: research of the literature, production of academic texts and presentation of their work in front of the class. The trainer specified the topic to be researched, and supported and monitored the students’ written production. The educational experience shows good results in the integration of knowledge. The value of analyzing theoretical constructions of science together with social, cultural and technological processes that take place throughout and that are interrelated in one way or another is highlighted.
