The scientific field is made of several agents that do not form a homogeneous block. At this time,there is a coexistence of tendencies in favor and against the public communication of science, especially when these activities are carried out by researchers. Therefore, the issue concerning the objective conditions in the scientific field that promote or hinder this is raised. This article focuses on the initiatives for the public communication of science and extension created by the Astronomical Observatory of Córdoba, Argentina, and explores the possibilities for an active participation of researchers in this type of activities
