Abstract

VAZQUEZ, Mabel et al. Effect of lime on the physical properties of a soil of the Pampean prairie. Cienc. suelo [online]. 2009, vol.27, n.1, pp.67-76. ISSN 1850-2067.

The edaphic acidification can diminish nutrients availability, as well as affect physical properties. Its treatment by means of calcic/calcic- magnesic amendments, could improve stationary and dynamic physical properties, consequently to changes of chemical nature. The aim of this work was to evaluate the incidence of different amendment type/doses, on the penetration resistance, bulk density, amount and distribution of pore sizes o, fractal dimension, infiltration and draining of a Typical Argiudol type of the Argentine Pampean Prairie, as well as its association with chemical variables. For it a trial was made with a randomized design (3 r), with parcels of 50 m2. Treatments: 0, 1,000, 1,500 and 2,000 kg ha-1 of shell and dolomite. They were applied in cover and incorporated in 2002 and 2005. The aggregate of amendments modified the penetration resistance in variable form according to dose and evaluation depth . The doses of 1,000 kg ha-1 reduced to this resistance respect the control and higher doses (1,500 and 2,000 kg hs-1) until 30 cm. Medium doses of both correctors increased the aggregates water stability. The dose of 2,000 kg ha-1 of dolomite increased, in relation to the control the pore frequency of greater size, with comparable geometries, at 10-20 cm of depth. The dolomite (1,000 kg ha-1) increased the infiltration and reduced the draining in relation to the control, reducing the erosion possibilities. The dolomite aggregate did not modify the bulk density nor the fractal dimension.

Keywords : Mechanical resistance; Structural stability; Bulk density; Infiltration; Porosity; Fractal dimension.
