The low availability of phosphorus (P) is one of the main limitations of production in lateritic soils. Soil bacteria, known as Phosphate Solubilizing Bacteria (PSB), have the ability to solubilize P forms mainly by organic acid production and chelation of calcium, iron or aluminum oxides. Inoculation with selected PSB to increase indigenous population can mobilize P from poorly available sources and increase plant absorption. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the inoculation of two PSB, Enterobacter aerogenes R4M-A and Burkholderia caledonica R4M-O, on soil P forms as well as on P uptake by orange plants (Citrus sinensis var. Newhall). Bacterial inoculation increased P absorption, improving the nutritional status of the plant substantially. This increase was more remarkable in plants inoculated and fertilized in which there was also a significant increase in total biomass. The PSB inoculation impacted the soil P forms as well as the nutritional status and growth of orange plants (C. sinensis var. Newhall).
