Changes in land use can cause more or less deep changes in streams quality. The spill of trace elements (TE) in such streams along with the natural input, could exceed threshold values, thus the possibilities of use of this water is restricted and could cause serious health damage. The objectives of this work were: a) Estimate the variation in arsenic (As), chrome (Cr), copper (Cu), iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), molybdenum (Mo), lead (Pb) and zinc (Zn) total concentrations in Pergamino streams (Buenos Aires) that running through areas with different land uses, during the four seasons in two different years and b) Evaluate their aptitude for human consumption, irrigation and animal drinking, comparing these concentrations with the respective national guide levels. Concentrations of TE found were due to natural composition of the original material for As, Cr, Cu, Pb, Fe, due to anthropic causes produced by different land use (livestock activity and channeling) to Mo and Mn and due to pouring of industrial and urban sewage effluents for Zn. Anthropic alterations were demonstrated in high and middle basin, respectively. These changes do not affect water quality for current uses (recreational and animal drinking). Near the outlet, water quality improved as a result of dilution and self-purification. It is essential to readapt the current use of lands, move away animals near the courses and implementing riparian strips and making treatment in urban sewage plant to increase TE retention.
