Resumen

GARCIA, Leticia Soledad; CAPRILE, Ana Clara  y  ANDRIULO, Adrián Enrique. Trace elements of the pampean aquifer in the high basin of pergamino stream under agricultural use. Cienc. suelo [online]. 2020, vol.38, n.2, pp.329-342. ISSN 1850-2067.

The groundwater of the north of the Buenos Aires province is the most used resource for the water supply for different purposes. This justifies deepening the local hydrogeological information in relation to trace elements (ET) to improve quality diagnosis. The objectives of this work were to: a) analyze the water level fluctuations in two periods and their effect on the physical-chemical water quality, b) evaluate the groundwater variation of As, Mo, Zn, Cr, Cu, Pb, Mn and Fe concentrations in recharge and discharge positions, in winter and summer and in two years with contrasting levels of the water table and, c) compare their ET concentrations with groundwater quality levels for human consumption, irrigation and animal drink, in a piezometers network with natural flow regime installed in five microbasins under exclusively agricultural production. In very different climatic years, the piezometers’s positioning in the landscape, sample extraction depth and the season of the year produced important differences in the ET concentrations. In addition to As, which was concentrated towards the discharge and in depth, particularly in summer, and Mo, also with high mobility and concentration at the base of the aquifer, the increase of the remaining ET concentrations at the aquifer base during periods of low recharge, and especially in summer, could represent a risk to health and the environment. As, Mo and Zn thresholds were exceeded in 70, 50 and 25% for human consumption, irrigation and animal drinking purposes, respectively. This indicates the treatment need for As abatement, Mo dilution and the inclusion of Zn concentration in the animal diet elaboration.
