HEREDIA, Candela Rocío. How is the pain?: Medical research, records and etiologies of pain in Pediatric Palliative Care. Cuad. antropol. soc. [online]. 2019, n.49, pp.147-162. ISSN 1850-275X. http://dx.doi.org/10.34096/cas.i49.4203.
The article addresses the constructions of infantile pain by a Pediatric Palliative Care team in a specialized public hospital in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires. From ethnographic fieldwork during 2015, I describe the difficulties in treating pain as an object of intervention/research. I also describe medical inquiries to qualify and explain the origin of pain and the use of allegories in this work. It is concluded that pain is a social relationship that is built in feeling, in being affected and treated, and in affecting and treating. In this relationship, children s suffering bodies take on a leading role, being co-constitutive of the therapeutic relationship of relief.
