Abstract

TYTELMAN, Carolina. Tents and Bugs in Labrador/Nitassinan:. Cuad. antropol. soc. [online]. 2021, n.54, pp.29-46.  Epub Nov 05, 2021. ISSN 1850-275X.  http://dx.doi.org/10.34096/cas.i54.8398.

Co-management processes illustrate some of the current characteristics of the relationships between indigenous peoples and the state in Canada. This article discusses the workings of a forest co-management institution between the Innu Nation and the provincial government of Newfoundland and Labrador based on two examples: the loss of a communal tent and the management of a forest infestation. These examples demonstrate different ideas of responsibility among participants of the co-management process, showing its limitations.

Keywords : Innu people; Co-management; Responsibility; Canada; Indigenous/State relationships.
