This work studies the impact and development of the process of modernization in urban popular statements in Argentina. It considers the articulation between center and periphery, micro and macro, legality and ilegality, public and private as a fundamental axis that leads to interpretation of modernization. This process is ilustrated by the analysis of social movility and peripheric urbanization, and of stigmatization and urban exclusion. The results of field work show some important aspects of the sinous and multidetermined way towards modernity ideals in argentine urban popular statements.
