Abstract

WEISSEL, Marcelo N.. Arqueolocos en Antropocity: una mirada sobre la reconstrucción del microcentro porteño en el espacio histórico. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2002, n.3, pp.87-97. ISSN 1850-373X.

In this paper we question the reconstruction of the social practices and local textualities that will be compromised by the creation of a new urban space that will produce the differential valuation of cultural resources in the 'almighty' downtown of Buenos Aires. The new Banco Galicia Tower will be constructed in this area, related to which an exhibition of the main results of an archaeological rescue program will be displayed. For this reason, it interests us to recognize in the past and present the social constructions where archaeological production will be placed. Today, beyond hegemonic interpretations, there are clear messages, such as the absence of evidence of a truthful, early urban past, the central role of Europe, and the financial and economic domain. Nevertheless, there are related textualities concerned with the use of space that do not coincide. Historic representations have become mixed up through proximity. In this way, we identify obscure points, like the place of mendacity and religion, the articulation of the spheres of decision and consumption, security and inter-communication, and the construction of spaces open to the public. Nonetheless, there is a specific use that defines the locality of downtown as the scene of the reproduction of a certain category of citizens, namely, those who pay their duties to the market.
