Abstract

BERON, Mónica Alejandra  and  BAFFI, Elvira Inés. Procesos de cambio cultural en los cazadores recolectores de la provincia de La Pampa, Argentina. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2003, n.4, pp.29-45. ISSN 1850-373X.

The bioarchaeological characterization of Holocene hunter-gatherers has increased in recent years in the Argentinean pampas. In the dry Pampa sub-region, sites with well-conserved human remains are scarce. Therefore, the subject of this paper is the possibility of analyzing cultural processes through mortuary practices at the beginning of the late Holocene in the Curacó area (La Pampa Province, Argentina). The first radiocarbon chronology associated with "circular" artificial skull deformation is presented. The meaning of the information recorded is evaluated, and the presence of funerary areas related to the complexity processes of dry Pampa hunter-gatherers is discussed.
