National and international transformations have produced deep structural changes in recent years, mainly in the work sphere. These changes have occurred not only in connection with the crisis of employment, but also around the valuation that work as a social construction has had historically for workers. This article concerns with the analysis of this last aspect. Social representations were adopted as the model of analysis. They are characteristic of the strand of European social psychology that refers to the modalities of collective mental productions and the form in which they intervene in speeches and social practices. A theoretical sample was made up of unemployed people and employees of hierarchical levels, administrators and operatives of the public and private sectors from the city of Corrientes. The factoral analysis of correspondence and computerized strategies such as SPAD-T and SPAD-N were used in the treatment of the data.
