This paper describes several use experiments performed with lithic shovels and/or hoes, which formed part of the research for my undergraduate thesis "Experimentación y análisis de microdesgaste de palas y/o azadas líticas de Antofagasta de la Sierra (Catamarca)" (Lithic shovel and/or hoe experimentation and microwear analysis in Antofagasta de la Sierra (Catamarca). The experimentation was designed and carried out taking into account the need for generating an experimental collection for the use and later analysis of wear traces. The results of these experiments will be useful for the identification of the use-wear pattern of archaeological tools. In this way, the results can provide information about the activities that took place, as well as allow a better understanding of the role of these artifacts within the framework of productive pastoral-agricultural economies. The function of shovels and/or hoes has been discussed for a long time. However, in general only morphological variables have been taken into account. The wide spatial and temporal distribution of these tools and the lack of experimental work in Argentina justify the need for such studies.
