MANZANO, Virginia. Tradiciones asociativas, políticas estatales y modalidades de acción colectiva: análisis de una organización piquetera. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2004, n.5, pp.153-166. ISSN 1850-373X.

This article presents an analysis of the impact of associative traditions and state policies on both the formation of "piqueteras" organisations and the shaping of their modalities of collective action. From a relational and contextualized perspective, and recovering the category of hegemony and concepts such as repertoire, tradition, state policy, and transaction, the views that explain the emergency of "the piquetero movement" as an "answer" to neoliberalism are redefined. Other perspectives that focus on the protests but without considering the organizational processes -both historical and quotidian- that affected them are also re-examined. It is particularly important to emphasize the contradictory articulation between associative traditions and state policies. The policies that were implemented during recent years have redefined associative traditions centred on help to some sectors of the population in virtue of "need" or "shortage". In this vein, they have reconstructed subjects and mode of action. At the same time, actions of resistance and consent are generated from the traditions themselves within the framework of specific correlations of forces. The partial results presented here are the outcome of anthropological fieldwork carried out in piqueteras organisations in La Matanza County, Buenos Aires Province. Techniques such as observation, in-depth interviews, and analysis of secondary sources were combined.
