Abstract

SCATTOLIN, M. Cristina; BUGLIANI, M. Fabiana; PEREYRA DOMINGORENA, Lucas  and  CORTES, Leticia. La señora de los anillos, entre otras tumbas presantamarianas de Yocavil. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2005, n.6, pp.29-41. ISSN 1850-373X.

Thousands of burials have been excavated in Santa María Valley, which have contributed substantial ceramic collections. However, a limited record of pre-Santa María burials have been documented (500 BC to AD 900). There are very few documentary or graphic records, recovery of human remains, or precise contextual references. In this paper a fortuitous discovery of a pre-Santa María burial, found in the area of Lampacito (Department of Santa María, Catamarca, Argentina), is reported. In spite of the poor conditions and state of the find important information has been recovered. Here a description of the specific circumstances of recovery is provided and the results of the analyses completed to date are presented. Bone materials are described and the associated material in the assemblage is examined. Finally, a general comparative framework is proposed as a way of contributing evidence towards understanding the burial.
