ZUBIMENDI, Miguel Ángel; CASTRO, Alicia Susana  e  MORENO, Julián Eduardo. El consumo de moluscos en la Costa Norte de Santa Cruz. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2005, n.6, pp.121-137. ISSN 1850-373X.

In this paper the value of mussels in the hunter-gatherer diet of the northern coast of Santa Cruz in the Late Holocene is discussed through the alimentary potential inferred from the archaeological record. As such, the archaeological image constructed from previous analyses is discussed in light of new results obtained from the analysis of the mussel remains. The density of mussel shell reflects the relative dietary importance of this resource. In relation to that idea we considered the variability of species represented archaeologically, the presence of which presumably represents the result of human decisions taken in relation to food consumption. Given that it is impossible to establish absolute values for the total calorific contribution of each site relative percentages are used to approximate the differential contribution of these mollusks to the indigenous diet. This exploratory and experimental method is a simple and operative analytical tool that enables an initial response, partial to the questions raised, as well as to discuss some conclusions previously passed over.
