Abstract

QUIROS, Julieta. Sobre el tiempo en la política: Notas etnográficas de la militancia en un partido de izquierda. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2005, n.6, pp.199-209. ISSN 1850-373X.

This work suggests that the dimension Time constitutes a significant variable at the moment of approaching the different ways we imagine and do politics. Based on an ethnographic investigation, and focusing upon a specific context of activism -a combination of party actions- the influence of time over political lives of the activists of a self-proclaimed left-wing, and more specifically socialist and Trotskyist, party is explored. The aim is to show the manner in which the production of a certain representation of temporality structures party membership in relation to Others (politicians) as well as the practices of activists within the political arena. Through this ethnographic case study a possible interface between time and politics is approached, which suggests that a central element of political struggle is the symbolic fight for representation of temporality.

Keywords : Anthropology of politics; Left-wing parties; Temporality; Milenarism.
