Abstract

ANGIORAMA, Carlos Ignacio. Miners from th altiplano or from the quebrada de humahuaca?: metals and ores trades in the argentinean northwest end (1280 - 1535 ad). Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2006, n.7, pp.147-161. ISSN 1850-373X.

In this paper, new evidence is presented concerning the circulation of minerals and metallic objects in the extreme northwest of Argentina during the late pre-Hispanic period. On the basis of this evidence we propose possible sources of the metalliferous minerals used for the manufacture of the metal objects found at the archaeological site of Los Amarillos (Quebrada de Humahuaca, Jujuy). Furthermore, we suggest the way in which minerals and metals might have arrived at this settlement.
