Resumen

PANTORRILLA, Martín M.  y  NUNEZ REGUEIRO, Víctor A.. Archaeological investigations in the Escaba area, Province of Tucumán: Condorhuasi and Aguada settlements in the Yungas. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2006, n.7, pp.235-245. ISSN 1850-373X.

In this paper, the results of the study of ten sites located in the Escaba area are presented. Most of these sites are submerged beneath the waters of the Escaba dam during the rainy season. Archaeologists found stone structures that crop up on the surface; surface collection and excavations indicate that the area was occupied by Condorhuasi populations that subsequently continued as Aguada. Radiocarbon dating conducted on a bone found in a burial yielded a conventional date of 1420 ± 60 years BP. The data support the hypothesis that Alamito sites were ceremonial centers, that they were of Aguada origin, and that Cortaderas, Santiago del Estero Province, is the result of a population expansion from Campo del Pucará and Escaba towards the Chacosantiagueña plains, following the network of Dulce river tributaries.

Palabras clave : Condorhuasi; Aguada; Yungas; Cortaderas.
