BORRAZZO, Karen B.. Lithic taphonomy in sand dunes: an approach to lithic artifacts analysis. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2006, n.7, pp.247-261. ISSN 1850-373X.

This paper presents a taphonomic perspective on lithic assemblage analysis. The main goal of lithic taphonomy is to build artifact life histories; in other words, to recover information about the conditions that existed through time (Gifford 1981). The data generated from this perspective allow the archaeologist to state and define the research problem on a scale that is concordant with the properties of the archaeological assemblage under study. The analysis design and results of the application of lithic taphonomy to a case study from north of Tierra del Fuego are developed. The taphonomic study of two surface archaeological assemblages recovered from coastal sand dunes highlights differences that may be related to behavioral and chronological factors.

Palavras-chave : Lithic taphonomy; Coastal sand dunes; Tierra del Fuego.
