Resumen
PALAMARCZUK, Valeria et al. Soria 2: Notes on a formative site in the yocavil valley (Catamarca Province, Argentina). Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2007, n.8, pp.121-134. ISSN 1850-373X.
This report presents preliminary information on the Early Period archaeological site of Soria 2 in the locality of Andalhuala Banda in the south of Yocavil Valley ( Catamarca Province, Argentina). A radiocarbon date of 1940 ± 80 radiocarbon years BP marks one moment of the initial site occupation. This information is particularly revealing as it represents one of the few successfully dated domestic-use contexts that dates to the beginning of the first millennium in the south of Yocavil. Through excavation it was possible to identify two occupation units that were only partially detectable on the surface due to poor visibility. A thick and rich stratum was defined within these two structures that revealed a wide range of archaeological material, such as pottery, lithics and faunal remains. The stratum also included several features: a hearth, several post holes, and one refuse pit that contained, among other discarded items, pieces from a ceramic pipe furnace. In addition, two primary burials of newborns within domestic (type) vessels and a secondary child burial were found in association with funeral goods. This paper will undoubtedly provide a better understanding of daily life among the early agro-pastoralist societies in this region, knowledge of whom remains elusive.
