Abstract

LLANO, Carina. The Archaeobotanical Record Of The Arroyo Malo-3 Site, Atuel Highland Valley, Mendoza, Argentina. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2008, n.9, pp.133-143. ISSN 1850-373X.

This work presents the analysis of the plant remains obtained from the archaeological site of Arroyo Malo 3 (AMA-3) by means of sediment flotation. The purpose is to evaluate the formation process of the archaeobotanical record, explore the role of vegetable resources and their importance to the subsistence of late Holocene human populations in highland areas, and hence contribute to testing the intensification pattern proposed for the region. Of the 342 specimens identified, 5 families were recognized: Chenopodiaceae, Anacardiaceae, Cactaceae, Asteraceae and Cyperaceae.

Keywords : Plant remains; Wild plants; Archaeobotany; Holocene; Mendoza.
