LOPEZ, Lisandro; PEREZ, Alberto  e  STERN, Charles R.. Sources Of Collection And Distribution Of Obsidians In Nuequén Province, Northwest Patagonia, Argentina. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2009, vol.10, n.1, pp.75-89. ISSN 1850-373X.

New chemical analyses are presented of 64 samples of obsidian from two areas in the southwest and central-west of the province of Neuquén. From the southwest area samples were analyzed from six geological sources of obsidian; three in the area of Lolog lake, including Cerro de las Planicies and locations of Puerto Arturo and Playa Norte; and three from Lácar lake, including from Quilahuinto and Pocahullo arroyos and a locality named Yuco along the north shore of the lake. Cultural obsidian artifacts were also analyzed, including samples from Lácar lake, along the coast adjacent to San Martín de los Andes, and Meliquina lake, 18.5 km to the south of this city. From the central-west area samples were analyzed from Cuchillo Cura, 10 km south of the city of Las Lajas, and approximately 25 km north of the obsidian source Portada Covunco.Portada Covunco. The results indicate differences in the quantity of the types of obsidian utilized in each area, with more diversity observed in the southwest compared to the central-west area. This difference may be related to the geographic distribution of the sources and/or the characteristics of the regional circulation of obsidian artefacts.
