Abstract

MANTILLA, María Jimena. The Construction Of De Decisions Leading To Psychiatric Hospitalization: An Analysis Psychoanalyticals Reasoniling And Social Interaction Contexts. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2010, vol.11, n.1, pp.145-157. ISSN 1850-373X.

In Argentina the mental health system is characterized by the asylum model, in which psychiatric hospitalization is one of the only therapeutic resources. In this context, it is necessary to study not only the social, cultural and economic conditions involved in the causes of hospitalization, but also the actors, procedures and situations which are involved in the decision-making process. In this paper, the decision-making process in psychiatric hospitalization is described and analyzed using an ethnographic approach. Psychoanalytic arguments concerned with the meanings of hospitalization as a therapeutic strategy are studied. Finally, a way to understand the decision-making process from the analysis of social interactions between the actors involved in the decision to hospitalize is proposed.
