Abstract
MESSINEO, Pablo Gerónimo. Archaeological research in the upper basin of Arroyo Tapalqué: model of human occupation for the center of the Pampa Húmeda sub-region during the late Holocene. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2011, vol.12, n.2, pp.275-291. ISSN 1850-373X.
In this paper, the archaeological evidence from sites located in diverse environments in the upper basin of arroyo Tapalqué is summarized. The main aim is to discuss a model of human occupation for this basin during the late Holocene (3500-500 years BP), emphasizing strategies of faunal exploitation, technological organization, and patterns of mobility, settlement, and utilization of space. The results obtained in this project concur with the evidence recorded for other areas of the Pampean region, where a collector component, lower residential mobility and access to specific resources through high logistic mobility are observed. Subsistence was based mainly on guanaco exploitation, and an expedient technological strategy was used for some local lithic resources. The emergence of territorial behavior in the region during the late Holocene caused the intensification of intergroup relationships to facilitate access to resources not locally available. In sum, research in this basin increased the evidence available for the center of the Pampa Húmeda sub-region and enabled the systematization of information and the development of models such as the one presented here.
