Abstract

DABEZIES, Juan Martín. Methodological proposal for the selection of archaeological sites to be used in the development of a product for tourism. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2011, vol.12, n.2, pp.305-318. ISSN 1850-373X.

This article presents the selection of a series of prehistoric archaeological sites from the Rocha area in Uruguay intended to be part of a private sector product for tourism. The work was based on a novel methodology for the area (string value), which aimed to objectify and articulate the different values of archaeological heritage according to the agents involved in the assessment. In addition to presenting the effect of applying the methodology, what is discussed, fundamentally, is the application itself. Based on the selection of these prehistoric sites it was possible to develop a series of cultural tourism itineraries that introduced new variables into the methodological discussion.

Keywords : Heritage; Tourism; Archaeology; Uruguay.
