We explore the relationships between indigenous residents of the lowlands of Santiago del Estero and the Inca State, from distributional, contextual and stylistic analysis of three evidence lines: metallic artifacts, elements associated with yarn and ceramic objects (Averías and Yokavil styles) production. Our approach tries to focus on the local late history, although changing the perspective towards the eastern foothills and the central valleys. We intend to contribute to the discussion and understanding of the processes involved in such relationships. We interpret that, in addition to the mobilization of indigenous populations mitimaes, from the plains to valley Inca installations; alliances transcended political and economic interaction spheres, towards the preservation, ownership and identification processes and strategies, in the private or domestic areas. These strategies allowed the incorporation and/or exclusion of certain features and objects, both in practice and everyday materials of the local communities, as in the mitimaes in the valleys. The latter would have generated emergent forms of identity, especially for mitimaes, yanas and privileged indians serving in state facilities, and among the communities of the plains, which maintained ties of alliance with the Inca State.
