ZENOBI, Diego. Del "dolor" a los "desbordes violentos: Un análisis etnográfico de las emociones en el movimiento Cromañón. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2013, vol.14, n.2, pp.353-365. ISSN 1850-373X.

In 2004 a fire occurred at a rock concert in Buenos Aires, leaving 194 young men dead. Survivors and relatives of the deceased initiated criminal proceedings a few days later, and street demonstrations were organized demanding 'justice'. Inside what came to be the 'Cromanón movement' divergent points of view exist in relation to how to carry out the public demonstrations. Some are against 'violent' action, considering it an 'irrational' behavior caused an overflow of emotions, and which has negative consequences for the 'legal strategy'. In this article, it is suggested that this preoccupation reveals parents are torn by 'conflicting ties' that bind them to the movement -as parents demanding 'justice'- while at the same time to the state -as parents pushing for criminal prosecution in the context of the judiciary. While research on 'demand movements' has often regarded emotions as a common value that provides the bases for legitimizing common actions, I show here that in this particular case feelings do not give a priori legitimacy to every kind of public demonstration and acquire, instead, a problematic character. Finally, the treatment by researchers of the state and the movement as discrete, unified and opposite entities is questioned in this case. In conclusion, by contrast, it is argued that they are closely interrelated.
