Resumen
BAUTISTA BELARDI, Juan et al. Paleoambientes y cronología de las ocupaciones cazadoras recolectoras de las cuencas de los lagos Tar y San Martín (provincia de Santa Cruz). Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2013, vol.14, n.2, pp.459-475. ISSN 1850-373X.
The aim of this paper is to present paleoenvironmental data obtained from pollen and charcoal records as well as the chronological information provided by calibrated radiocarbon dates (26 samples from 12 archaeological contexts) in order to discuss the peopling of the Tar and San Martin lake basins, Southwestern Patagonia. Like other similar Patagonian environments, the first recorded occupation of these basins occurs under arid conditions at the beginning of the Holocene. The region seems to have been only occasionally occupied until ca. 5500 cal. years BP. By the late Holocene the frequency of radiocarbon dates increases, coinciding with the stabilization of local environmental conditions. However, for the last 2000 cal. years BP this record shows a lower occupational intensity relative to other adjacent areas such as the Cardiel and Strobel lakes basins. These differences suggest a rather decoupled occupation pattern during Late Holocene times.
