SPROVIERI, Marina  e  RIVERA, Stella Maris. Las maderas de la "Colección La Paya: Circulación y consumo en el valle Calchaquí (Salta). Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2014, vol.15, n.1, pp.89-102. ISSN 1850-373X.

In recent decades, advances in xylology (the identification of wood from its structure) have led to its application for identification of wood and charcoal from archaeological sites. In this article, these techniques are used to identify the woods used to manufacture artifacts in a large collection of objects from the site of La Paya (Calchaquí Valley, Salta). The analyses show that a range of woods was used as raw materials for manufacture and that some of these wood resources were not available locally. The results suggest that inhabitants of the Calchaquí Valley were engaged in interregional exchange that enabled them to procure either the wood (as raw materials) or the finished products from adjacent regions during the Regional Developments Period; connections that apparently continued in inka times.
